Designing the strategy

Each team names the change they exist to make, diagnoses the single constraint in the way, and decides what to focus on and what to stop. Remote peer sessions every week.

Why plans fade

Most teams have lived through it. The plan gets written, the board approves, and a year later the organization runs exactly as before. The work stopped before it reached the systems that decide where money, attention, and energy actually go, so those systems kept funding yesterday's strategy.

What strategy really is

Strategy is two things: the choices you make, and the systems that run them. Your systems are already carrying out a strategy right now. The only question is whether it's the one you chose or the one you inherited.

What we built

Three leadership teams work through six questions and seven systems together over thirteen weeks. They sharpen their choices in a room with peers who will push them, then start changing the systems that make those choices hold. By the end, the new strategy is already showing up in how each organization runs.

The big idea

Who it’s for

This is built for some teams, not all.

A fit if

  • You need serious change, not a tune-up
  • You have a strong operations leader
  • Your board backs the work
  • You can move at a deliberate pace

Not a fit if

  • You want a facilitated retreat
  • You’re still finding your mission or model
  • There’s no one to own activation
  • You need full consensus before each choice

Teams that have done the work.

Your work helped us clarify what we’re called to do, recommit to our core mission, and begin bringing what felt like five organizations into one compelling ministry. Most importantly, you gave me the guidance I needed to lead the team toward greater mission clarity.

Working with you was incredible. You kept us on track and taught us things we didn’t know, but you also felt like a member of the team. It was fun to work with you and your relational style was perfect for our organization. The end product was better than we could have hoped for, and much better than we could have done on our own.

Drew Hood

Founder, Glass Box Systems

I've been leading teams since I ran restaurants and hotels right out of college, and I learned early how much a healthy team can do when everyone knows where they're headed. I carried that into two decades as a nonprofit executive, including years leading a global team working in over 60 countries. The thing I kept seeing was talented, committed people held back by the same problem: a strategy that lived on paper but never changed how the organization actually ran. That's the work I do now. I help leadership teams build strategy that's clear enough to act on, then change the systems that let a great team put it to work.
